What is failover?

Network failover occurs when remaining internet links seamlessly take over the network load when some links become unavailable. Failover is done by auto-detecting availability of links and automatically modify routing system to not use the unavailble links.

Why failover?

Internet and intranet applications have become an important and critical part of today's enterprises. High availability and performance for both internal and external IP client access are required for businesses large and small alike. Any IP information platform down time translates to a huge loss in terms of productivity and business goodwill and opportunity.

Failover is used to make systems more fault tolerance, failover is typically an integral part of mission-critical systems that must be constantly available. The procedure involves automatically offloading tasks to a standby system component so that the procedure is as seamless as possible to the end user. The capacity for automatic failover means that normal functions can be maintained despite the inevitable interruptions caused by problems with equipment.
